Boycott
Procter and Gamble Products
Behind the multi-million
pound advertising lies a corporation that kills thousands of animals every year.
In a secretly
filmed video monkeys were shown being subjected to pain and terror in Procter
and Gamble tests.
Huntingdon Life Sciences,
the world's biggest commercial animal testers, maintain a colony of monkeys
for on-site product testing on behalf of Procter and Gamble.
The video extracts show
experiments carried out on 48 monkeys to test a P&G nasal decongestant already
in use by human volunteers. Rubber tubes were forced up the monkeys' noses and
then down their throats so that large doses of the product could be pimped into
their stomachs.
It shows monkeys held
in mid-air while substances are injected into their eyelids. Laboratory technicians
were filmed slamming the monkeys into cages, screaming at the frightened animals
and shaking their fists in the faces of monkeys strapped down for tests.
At the end of the experiment
the undercover investigator filmed an autopsy being performed on a monkey which
was still alive. All 48 monkeys were killed.
Procter and Gamble claim
to be world leaders on researching humane testing methods. But the reality is
that in 7 days P&G spent more on adverts that it spent in 11 years on humane
testing methods.
These experiments are
paid for with profits from the sale of their products. Every bottle of Pantene,
every packet of Tampax tampons, every box of Ariel, Bold or Daz bought means
more money for more animal experiments. IF
YOU BUY P&G PRODUCTS YOU ARE FUNDING PAINFUL AND LETHAL EXPERIMENTS ON ANIMALS.
Fortunately, not all
producers of cosmetics, toiletries and household products test on animals.
Many companies (e.g.
The Co-op, Tesco etc) produce like-for-like products that are completely cruelty-free.
There are many superior
testing methods such as cell cultures, chemical tests and computer modelling,
and there are thousands of ingredients with a proven track record of safety.
Procter and Gamble believe
that the public is most sympathetic to animal testing if they think it might
protect children who are accidentally poisoned. This approach simply exploits
people's fears. Animals are different to people and data gained from poisoning
them is not relevant.
In fact, doctors far
prefer to treat poisons according to their experience with other human patients.
Why do Procter and Gamble
risk producing new products that may be poisonous, when so many ingredients
exist whose risk already understood? Just how badly do we need a new washing-up-liquid?
What
you can do
Use your power as a
consumer to stop this pointless animal suffering. Uncaged Campaigns is working
with groups all around the world on this huge boycott - with your help they
can force P&G to join the hundreds of other manufacturers who do not test
on animals. We think that you will agree - going without Procter and Gamble
products is a small price to pay for stopping the suffering of millions of animals.
