Co-op supports vivisection

Thank you for your further email and may I apologise for the delay in our response to you.
Support for the British Heart Foundation does not conflict with  the Group's position on to animal testing. We have a consistent  approach to this issue across all businesses. All Co-op  own-brand toiletry and toiletry products are accredited to the BUAV's   'cruelty free' Humane Cosmetic Standard.
The Co-operative Bank's  Ethical Policy contains a commitment not to invest in any  business involved in animal testing of cosmetic or household products  or ingredients, and the Co-operative Insurance Ethical  Engagement Policy challenges CIS' investee companies to end the reliance  on animal testing for cosmetic or household purposes. The basis  of these policies is that all statements are underpinned by a customer mandate and accurately reflect their ethical concerns.

This position does not extend to animal testing for medical purposes. Detailed customer research clearly shows that customers  support the exclusion of companies involved in the animal testing  of cosmetic or household products, this consensus does not  extend to cover animal testing for medical purposes.
