Naturewatch
Campaign to Boycott L'Oreal Products
They don't want to talk
about it. They don't want you to know about it. But behind the glossy advertising
and famous celebrities, the biggest cosmetics company in the world hides a shameful
secret.
Despite knowing the
overwhelming public revulsion, L'Oreal continues to use
thousands of animals to test upon every year.
L'Oreal does not want
to reveal animal testing to their customers, and they certainly don't want to
reveal the disgusting range of tests carried out on the animals.
In the
name of vanity, animals are subjected to painful and cruel ingredient testing
by the industry.
Disgraceful eye irritation
tests are conducted by securing rabbits so they are immobile while substances
are dropped into their eyes (rabbits are used because they have no tear ducts
and therefore cannot relieve the stinging and pain).
Poisoning takes place
whereby groups of animals are continually force-fed an ingredient until half
of the group die. Other animals have their skin shaved and scraped until super-sensitive,
then the ingredient is applied to test skin reaction - making sure that the
poor animal cannot scratch or remove the substance.
It is hard to imagine
the pain suffered by these defenceless animals. But we all know how sore it
can be when we get something in our eye or our skin is scraped - at least we
can immediately do something to relieve the pain. Think of what it would be
like if we were unable to touch or stop the pain, not just for a minute or two
but for hours running into days.
It's simply so disgraceful!
And,
we have only briefly mentioned three tests - there are a further six animal
tests used by the cosmetics industry.
Thankfully, some countries,
such as the UK have banned cosmetic ingredient testing, so L'Oreal had to go
elsewhere, such as Japan and America where animal testing is allowed. However,
the sale of products developed via animal testing is NOT banned. So, despite
overwhelming public disapproval, L'Oreal continues new product development via
animal testing - they just hide the fact from everyone.
L'Oreal is the single
biggest obstacle to ending cosmetic testing on animals.
Therefore, Naturewatch
are now launching a major campaign to boycott all L'Oreal products.
Naturewatch wants a
promise from L'Oreal to stop this unacceptable cruelty to animals.
Your support is vitally
important and there are a number of ways in which you can really make a difference
for the defenceless animals.
Firstly,
please write to the UK head of L'Oreal. His name is Tom Viner, please copy this
letter and send it to him.
Secondly,
Naturewatch have also produced an extensive "Action Pack" that includes all
you need to take further action, including details of the Naturewatch
Day of Protest against L'Oreal on Saturday 25th November.
With your help of support,
we are determined to win this important fight on behalf of the tens of thousands
of animals that are killed for vanity products every year.
Please
make a donation to help the defenceless animals. Whatever gift you can spare
is urgently needed and will be put to immediate use in this campaign to stop
L'Oreal testing. The terrible fear, pain and despair that the animals
endure in cruel experiment laboratories must end.
With your help, we can
win this important battle.
L'Oreal has massive
financial power, yet Naturewatch totally relies on your kind support to fund
the fight for the imprisoned animals.
